Carrie & Blanche Cohen
In 1885, sisters Carrie (9) and Blanche (8) Cohen were admitted to the Home from New Orleans. According to the Home’s records, both parents, Louis Cohen and the former Marianna Rothschild, were living, but Louis’s whereabouts were unknown.
Carrie lived in the Home until 1890, when she returned to her mother. She obtained a job working as a clerk at Kaufman & Isaacs department store in New Orleans.
She married Alex Kahn, with whom she raised two children in Baton Rouge. After her son Jacob’s wife died, Carrie cared for his three children (Frances, Raymond, & Andrew Kahn) while he struggled to find work. When Carrie could no longer afford to support her grandchildren, Jacob admitted them to the Home, adding Carrie and her grandchildren to a list of more than a dozen multi-generational families of Home alumni.
Carrie died in 1951 and was buried in Baton Rouge’s Jewish Cemetery.

Blanche remained in the Home until 1893 when she joined her mother and sister in New Orleans. She later married David Edward Scoble.
According to the 1950 census, after David died, Blanche lived in Baton Rouge with her sister, Carrie, also widowed. Blanche died in 1952.
